that's cruel to make me count every colorful pine needle on the Christmas tree just before the 24th of December, your riddle and HSes which are leading astray prevented me from spending time with family. and yes, i know the counting trick, nevertheless it isn't giving me proper number. or letter. or word. anything.
looks like i'm sucked in by the circle again changing fiddle for a pencil

edit: done. it's simplier than you think, just connect the most obvious things you have, follow the first association and don't believe the herring

Last step has no hints whatsoever (not even HS for correct counting) but I can understand why, it's really hard to hint without giving away.

EDIT: removed unneeded clues, I'm trying to make Strati-like poetic hints now.

As for the first part, I knew the illusion beforehand, so at least I didn't waste my time and my eyes trying to count THAT.
