I'm interested in this thing few days now and what can I say it's absoulutely, awesomely genious. Something like riddles but whole process of solving is in the real world, you have to visit places under given coordinates, find some clues there, use the clues you have... The prize is a "case" which is hidden somewhere there, inside there's a caselog [where you can sign yourself] and some stuff from previous cachers [you can leave some, too]. Some cases are virtual, that means there's no physical object and thing is about finding password you type when you log your success to one of plenty geocaching web services where the case is registered. I don't know what about different countries, but in Poland there's really plenty of cases. The very useful thing to play geocaching is GPS but it's possible to find some cases even without it. Great fun.

I love the idea, but there's one unpleasant detail: it's easier to find other geocachers than the cache itself... literally, it happened to me a few times: I go to the place where a cache should be hidden, but instead of it I find a group of people with a GPS, whispering, exchanging gestures and impatiently looking at me, who doesn't want to leave the place and let them look for the cache without being observed. once I even wanted to make an acquaintance, but it turned out that it wasn't the best idea.

That's strange, I have never met any other geocacher while geocaching. Never, and I already found about 70 caches, not to mention places I visited but cache wasn't there or I couldn't find it. That's pretty weird when I read that people are meeting each other by caches. Never happened to me.

Maybe that's because I used http://www.geocaching.com/ in these cases I described, and there are only a few caches indicated in Warsaw (Warsaw is where I searched). When I used http://opencaching.pl/ such things didn't happen to me.

I used the global site only because it was the first one I came across, I've found out about the Polish one later on. There's not very much for Polish people on geocaching.com, comparing to opencaching.
