I need help. I've never seen anything that uses symbols and numbers like those in the image. The only thing the name of the image makes me think of is a --- but I don't see what that has to do with coordinates and XY. Riddles really shouldn't require a person to have seen a specific device to solve, that just makes the puzzle impossible for those who've never seen the device.

I got it now. I was just staring at "the device" and it suddenly came to me. Boy did I feel stupid when I finally came up with the answer and realised that I should have figured it out a lot faster. I expect I'm going to feel that way a lot with this game
